On a recent trip to Hawaii, we took a drive upcountry on Maui to visit a friend. Upcountry Maui is the cool, elevated, and rural agricultural region located on the slopes of the Haleakala volcano. Maui is not a place where there are campgrounds and to see a travel trailer of any kind anywhere is kind of rare. So you can imagine my surprise and delight to come across this shiny 1964 Overlander.
I of course, had to stop for a coffee at my new favourite coffee shop, the Malia Coffee Co. My friendly barista, Alex made us a couple of excellent coffees and told us a bit about the company. He did not know the origin of the Airstream or how it came to its home on the side of a volcano on Hawaii. At the time of writing I have not heard back from the company about those details.
Here is some content from the company website.
Maui's coffee scene is vibrant and growing, but there was room for something new, a place where uncompromising quality meets the rhythm of island life. Where craft and convenience aren't competing values, but complimentary ones.
That vision became Malia Coffee Co., a name that carries generations of familial grace and strength.
The flagship location, The Kettle, opens in historic Hali'imaile as an invitation to experience coffee that honors both the meticulous standards of the Pacific Northwest and the spirit of Maui. Exceptional beans, thoughtful preparation, genuine hospitality, all designed to elevate the day, one cup at a time. This is coffee culture, island style.
