Airstream Only! What do you know about Airstream exclusive parks?

Yes, it is a fact.  There are indeed many RV parks that are for Airstream brand products only. Now before anyone cries "foul" and deems this as some kind of RV elitism, you need to know some of the backgrounds for these Airstream exclusive destinations.  I have to admit, that many years ago after finishing a complete restoration on a 1971 Airstream Tradewind my first travel objective was to see as many of the Airstream Only travel parks that I had heard about.  There was a kind of mystery about the idea that now I could gain entry to these parks in my decades-old travel trailer that even folks in a brand new million-dollar class A motorhome would not be admitted into.  Aah yes, that Airstream magic!  These parks are not in any way part of the Airstream company itself but in most cases are outgrowths of a chapter of an Airstream club in that geographic area.  The WBCCI, ( the Wally Byam Caravan Club International or the Airstream Club International) is an owners club that was established in the 1950s to facilitate groups of Airstream owners traveling together.  As the club grew and expanded local chapters were formed all across the USA and Canada.  Each local chapter ran Rallies and Caravans and owners built strong and long-lasting relationships with other owners all over the continent.  Because of this, many units opted to find a parcel of land that they could purchase and develop as a "home base" for their unit and allow them the freedom to have rallies and special events on their own property.  This development was self-funded by these club chapters, and all the expenses were shared by members.  Individual lots, or sites, were purchased and clubhouses and kitchens, and services developed as time went by.  Each of these Airstream parks always allowed extra space for other Airstream travelers and with space to allow them to host larger rallies and special events relating to the Airstream club.

Today many of these Airstream-only parks continue to offer a place to stay to Airstream owners and membership in the club is not a barrier to your visit.  The parks I will discuss are in locations all over the USA and many of them I have stayed in myself and can give you a first hand recommendation.

The common denominator for all of the parks listed below is the instant sense of community and safety you perceive in an Airstream park.  Airstream owners all seem to know other Airstream owners, and you will likely have common aquaintences wherever you stay.  Rates are lower than commercial campground and there is alway a wealth of knowledge available and helping hands if you have any trouble.  It is one of the true perks of owning the Airstream brand and I encourage you to explore and support these excellent parks.  Contact me at michael@canamrv.ca and I may be able to answer a few questions for you.

*Please check with the park you are planning to visit as some have pet restrictions and some have guidelines for how many days you can stay and possible age limitations.

Florida has a number of Airstream parks and for anyone wanting to escape the cold these are great options.

Paradise Park in Punta Gorda, Florida is perhaps the real hidden gem of Airstream parks.  I have spent considerable time at this first rate park and can speak from experience that it is indeed worthy of a visit.  The park is located inland from the city of Punta Gorda and just north of Fort Myers.  The southern location means that winter weather is much warmer than areas like Orlando.  The park is actually deemed a condo association for the 55 plus demographic.  This means that each of more than 300 fully serviced lots are individually owned and that expenses to run the resort are shared equally.  There are two avenues to have a stay at Paradise Park.  One way is to contact an owner directly through the parks website and arrange a rental stay.  Rates vary depending on the time of year and the resources that the individual site offers.  The other way is to stay at the visitor sites at the front of the property that have full electric and water connections and a convenient dump station.  These visitor stays are booked through the main office.  One of the main draws of the park is the lovely Shell Lake Golf Course on site.  The extensive 9 hole course is very popular with the owners and is well maintained.  The large heated pool is surrounded with a beautiful sunset mural.  Many Airstreamers  that visit the park eventually become owners.  With the price of real estate in Florida escalating, Paradise Park has become a very attractive option for folks that would like to embrace a snowbird lifestyle and the lot prices and association fees at this park are very reasonable.  Each lot in the park has a concrete parking pad with full connections and most have a 10’ x 20’ cabana room as well.  For an extended stay the cabana room is a wonderful addition to your Airstream home.  As well, all lots have a 10’ x 10’ utility room that in many cases owners have installed washers and dryers, showers, toilets, refrigerators and other features.  When renting from an owner these are the features that will influence how much you will pay.

Mystic Springs Cove
in the Florida Panhandle, you will find at Mc David.  This is about 35 miles from the beautiful coastal city of Pensacola and is located on the banks of the Escambia River.  This is a 10 acre park with a rustic appeal and sponsored by the Pensacola unit of the Airstream Club International.

This is more of a campground and not a trailer park with lots of shady sites and moss draped oaks.  There are 58 sites , most with water and electric and sewer.  I have not stayed at Mystic Springs Cove myself, but close friends were campground hosts there for years and really loved that park.  Rates are very reasonable, but it is in the panhandle area, and winter there is not exactly beach weather.

Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne Florida is on the East Coast with easy access to the ocean. The excellent location gives you access to Disney, 40 miles away and rocket launches are easily seen from the comfort of your Zip Dee chair.  This is a very neat and tidy trailer park with concrete pads and 8 x 10’ sheds on each generous site.

LYH are members of Passport America and offer discounts to members.  This has historically been an Airstream only park and when we visited it was still filled with Airstream products.  I understand that of late they are allowing other brands of RVs to visit the park.  This is a 55 plus park with an non-negotiable rule of NO PETS.

Jersey Shore Haven is nestled in the heart of the New Jersey Cape and uniquely situated halfway between Atlantic City and Cape May.

Here on 38 acres of naturally wooded campground, you will find 98 spacious 4 point campsites.  Jersey Shore Haven is a quiet park with a warm and friendly atmosphere located just miles away from the uncrowded pleasures of the most beautiful and safest bathing beaches along the Atlantic coast. I have stayed at this park several times and even brought a caravan we were leading here for a few days.  I loved the laid back atmosphere, huge pool and proximity to all kinds of beach related activity.  Rates were excellent and folks were friendly.

It was formed to develop and maintain a park for Airstream owners and their guests.  No WBCCI membership is required for daily, weekly, or monthly stays.  I have stayed at Penn Wood and found it a wonderful place to relax and unwind.  For hiking, biking, birding and quiet reflection there are few equals. Like all Airstream parks there is a large recreation hall and other amenities to make your stay pleasant.

Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground (TCPC) is an exclusive Airstream-only, campground located on the beautiful Cumberland Plateau just south of Crossville, TN. All sites have water, sewer, and 30 amp electric service.  There is free wifi throughout the park. Visitors with trailers and motorhomes produced by Airstream Inc. are welcome at this member owned camping destination.

The location is breathtaking and the park's 150 sites are laid out in a large oval around a central large recreation hall.  One of the first Airstream only parks I visited was TCPC and to say that the other owners made me feel welcome would be a huge understatement.  Rates are very reasonable and reservations would be recommended depending on what time of year you would be visiting.

The Top of Georgia Airstream Park is nestled in a small section of private land within the Chattahoochee National Forest in north Georgia, along a designated scenic highway. The resources and isolation of the forest provide vast opportunities for outdoor adventures. The Appalachian Trail follows the ridge line up the hill from the park. The Top of Georgia is a non-profit facility staffed by volunteer members of the Georgia Unit of the WBCCI.

This is a particularly beautiful part of the country and very much worth your time to get off the beaten path to relax in the natural splendour found here.  Enjoy the beautiful blooming flowers and trees in the spring, the cool breezes in the summer, the colorful fall foliage, and the beautiful winter landscape.  You can swing, hike, visit, bicycle, and make new friends while renewing old friendships.
